Justin is a native of Charleston, SC. He attended the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University. He has been consistently active in the Charleston music and arts scene since he was a child. Justin moved to New York City in 2006 to pursue his dreams of working on Broadway as a pianist and conductor, playing for several NYC churches, full-time accompanist for the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus, rehearsal accompanist for Wicked and pianist/conductor for the revival of A Chorus Line. He returned to Charleston in 2008 to teach performing arts in Charleston County School District as well as Bishop England High and First Baptist Church School. He is on the board for the Charleston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is an active part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival of Churches, Piccolo Spoleto L’Organo series and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. As an influential advocate for the arts, he believes there is a place for EVERYONE in music and will always offer a welcoming smile to anyone who he crosses paths with.
Justin joined our staff in 2020 as the Director of Music and Organist. He presides over the Chancel Choir, and Adult English Handbell Choir as well as a Summer Choir and Instrumental Ensembles. In 2020, he established the Holy Spirit in Harmony Concert Series bringing local and national talent to the area each year. Justin also founded the Lowcountry Lutheran Choir that combines approximately 100 voices from all over the Lowcountry and surrounding areas for a large ecumenical service every year involving symphony musicians and clergy from participating churches.
Justin’s biggest passion is working with children of all ages in music and arts on many levels and he holds a summer music camp involving over 50 children ages 5 to 15 each year.
